Austria hires Ralf Rangnick as Man United contract expires

Austria captained by Nigerian-born David Alaba failed to reach the 2022 World Cup, hence the need to bring in a new manager

Austria’s Football Association (OFB) has agreed to a deal with Manchester Uniteds’ interim boss, Ralf Rangnick whose contract with The Red Devils expires at the end of the season.

According to Austrian news outlet Kurier, the German agreed a two-year deal to take charge of Austrias’ national team and would be officially confirmed by the OFB in the coming days.

The report by the news medium also indicated that the 63-year-old is expected to combine the new job with a role as a consultant with Manchester United.

Ragnick now has three more games to take charge of as Uniteds’ manager after Thursday’s draw against Chelsea. Erik ten Hag will take over from him next season. 

Meanwhile, Rangnick’s consultancy role at Old Trafford is yet to be confirmed, it will be finalised after he leaves his current role as the interim manager.
