The maiden edition of the Attah Igala Unity Cup, with nine Local Government Areas of the Eastern district of Kogi State participating in the tournament kicked-off from Monday, April 21 to end on Sunday, April 27.
Chairman, Idah Local Government Area Council, Dr. Musa Major promised that the tournament will be a huge success as they are ready to host people of the lgala Kingdom in the traditional headquarters, Idah for the Attah Igala Unity U16 Cup. Major, who is the host and leader of Chairmen from the eastern flank of the state, said his administration is ever devoted to engage youths through sports.
The week-long Attah Igala U16 Boys Football Championship is organised to commemorate the coronation of His Royal Majesty, Michael Idakwo Ameh Oboni II who is a-year on the throne.However, chairman, Kogi State chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) and organizers, Umar Nnda has commended the cooperation of Major in providing the needed support to ensure a successful competition.
He promised that the Federation will organize a competitive tournament that will aid the discovery of talents and encourage unity among youths in the area, which are the reasons for the competition.
Meanwhile, the National Vice President of YSFON, Honourable Mustapha Allah-Dey, said plans are already concluded to ensure the Attah Igala Unity Cup becomes a national competition so as to gain recognition like other notable tournaments for traditional rulers.
Allah-Dey urged participating teams to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in the course of the tournament; as such competition is not a do-or-die affair.
