Atiku beats Buhari in Enugu as VON DG describes election as peaceful, hitch-free

The People’s Democractice Party (PDP) has recorded an impressive figure in the Saturday, February 23 Presidential election in Enugu state.

The Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)  in Enugu state, Prof Joseph Ahaneku on Monday announced that PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku  Abubakar scored 355,553 votes from 17 Local Government Areas of the state while President Muhammadu Buhari of APC got 54,423.

He gave the total number of registered voters as 1,935,168 while accredited voters are 452,765.

According to him,  total vote cast stands at 451,063 and  valid vote is 421,014  while 30,049 votes were rejected.

Reacting to the announcement of the result, the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (VON) Osita Okechukwu said:  ” I observed the election in many wards in the state and it was peaceful. 

“We thank God that we are coming closer to transparent and credible election. We have to abide with the wishes of the people because the people are becoming wiser daily. 

“Even though APC didn’t  win in Enugu, we won in other states  so it’s victory for all. I want people to know that the adoption  of Atiku by  Ohanaeze Ndigbo affected Atiku’s chance in the North because it was immediately Ohanaeze adopted Atiku that Northerners also adopted Buhari and today we have victory in the North and some other parts of the country. 

Also, a Chieftain of PDP and the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dubem Onyia described the election as peaceful and hitch free in the state.

He commanded electorates in Enugu state for trooping out enmass  to vote for Atiku Abubakar which gave him victory in the state.
