In 2015, Dino Melaye defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but returned to PDP in the buildup to the 2019 elections after months of political struggle with Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. Atiku was also the PDP presidential candidate in 2019.

Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has appointed Senator Dino Melaye and Daniel Bwala as his spokespersons for the 2023 presidential campaign.

The former Vice President in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Paul Ibe, in Abuja on Thursday, said that the appointment takes immediate effect.

“I’m grateful to H:E, A A, GCON, Waziri Adamawa, presidential candidate of our party, (PDP), for appointing me spokesman of the Atiku/Okowa ticket.  This for me is a humbling recognition and I pledge to justify the confidence reposed in me.  Together, we shall reclaim our country,” he said.

In 2015, Melaye defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but returned to PDP in the buildup to the 2019 elections after months of political struggle with Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. Atiku was also the PDP presidential candidate in 2019.

Bwala, on the other hand, recently defected to the PDP from the APC. He served as a Special Adviser on Legal Matters to Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege. He left the APC in protest of the decision of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu, to fly a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 elections.
