The Chairman, Delta State Sports Commission Chief Tonobok Okowa personally supervised the screening of some of the State’s AthIetes to make sure they fall within the 15yrs age bracket.
The screening was conducted with the assistance of the coaches who freely and sincerely volunteered answers to documents to ascertain their real ages.
The Chairman, who is also the Local organising Committee boss of the National Youth Games said, “As the host state, we ought to set example for others to follow.
“I have to see the Athletes personally. I don’t want to depend on what I was told.
It’s not the issue of trust now, but reality. Delta want to compete and win squarely, getting it right at this stage is paramount,”
Some of the Athletes screened out were a few months after their 15th birthday, but the Commission boss insisted, it must be a few months to their 15th birthday.
Some of the dropped AthIetes were in tears after being told to leave the camp.
