Arase is meaningless to Frank Rajah

Frank Rajah Efosa Arase was born in Benin City, Edo State, but he grew up in Lagos where he started his film career.

This talented film director, dancer and actor is currently based in Ghana where he came to limelight when he directed the film, Official Prostitute.

He has impacted positively on the film industry of Ghana as he was instrumental in the introduction of many Ghanaian actors like Jackie Appiah, Van Vicker, Majid Michel, Nadia Buari and John Dumelo to Nollywood through his collaboration with Abdulsalam Mumuni’s Venus Films.

His Raj and Heroes Films has also released notable movies like Somewhere in Africa and Iyore. There is every reason to celebrate this African pride, but the guy ‘fall our hands’ when he granted an interview on M-Net’s ‘Jara’ with Helen Paul.

Although he had said he hardly grants interviews, as he is a quiet and principled person, on this particular interview on Jara, he wasn’t quiet at all.

How can a film director and a Benin man tell everybody that he does not know the meaning of his surname (Arase) because “it is a family name”?

It is certain that the acting Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, will not be happy with this statement he uttered, as if there is no big deal taking one’s family history for granted.

This is to remind Frank that as a Nigerian and an African, we are very proud of our lineage, irrespective of where we are based.
