APGA condemns attack on Obi, others

In obvious dissonance to campaign of calumny by some youths sending the impression at acting at its behest, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has disowned a trending video casting aspersion on former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi and other politicians at opposing camps with Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano.

Some obviously misguided youths, riding on the euphoria of the November 18 Anambra governorship election in which Obiano was reelected, have been displaying mock coffin of Obi, indicating that he had dead, politically.

But APGA, in a statement by its National Chairman, Victor Oye, disowned the youths, stressing that their action was at variance with what the party stood for.

The statement, captioned, “Magnanimity in victory”, read in parts;

“It has come to our attention that some persons under the guise of celebrating the momentous victory of His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano in the just- concluded Anambra Governorship Election engage in disruptive, salacious, racy and uncouth media attacks on the persons that contested against the governor and lost. Some others have even made coffins with inscriptions capable of causing a breach of the peace and generating unnecessary bad blood.

“As much as we appreciate the need for people to celebrate the milestone attained by the governor and the party under my chairmanship, it should be done with decorum and charitability.

“APGA as a responsible political party will not condone the use of its name, logo or any insignia for that matter in whatever guise to perpetrate acts that are indecent, inhumane, indecorous, and unsignifying against anybody, particularly those that contested the election with our beloved governor.

“Governor Obiano, for those who know him too well, cannot engage in or encourage anything that is pedestrian, debasing or haughty”.

He added that for the party, the election has been won and lost. It is now time for serious business.
