APC doomed to face rejection in 2027 – PDP Governors

By Jeffrey Agbo

The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has taken a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a party “with no agenda, no vision, and doomed to face inevitable rejection by the masses” in the 2027 general elections.

The declaration was contained in a communiqué issued on Saturday after the forum’s 7th meeting of 2025, held in Gusau, Zamfara State, under the leadership of Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

The governors urged PDP members to resist attempts by “anti-party forces” to undermine the party’s National Convention scheduled for November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. They stressed that the unity and vigilance of members were vital to ensure the success of the convention, which they described as crucial to repositioning the PDP as a credible alternative to the APC.

Deliberations at the meeting covered national security, governance and preparations for the convention.

The communiqué expressed appreciation to PDP supporters nationwide for their loyalty despite alleged intimidation and “anti-democratic practices” from the APC-led Federal Government.

“We commend the resilience of our leaders and members in overcoming orchestrated defections. Such distractions cannot diminish our party’s strong grassroots appeal or the growing public yearning for the return of affordable living and relative security experienced under PDP-led administrations,” the forum stated.

It further charged members to remain firm, describing the APC as a party destined for failure.

“This sad situation should only be seen as the sign of the desperation of a political party with no agenda, no vision, and doomed to face inevitable rejection by the masses,” it declared.

Reaffirming its commitment to the resolutions of the PDP’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in July 2025, the forum insisted that the November convention must proceed as scheduled.

“We urge members to resist all attempts by anti-party forces to derail the November 15 National Convention. The PDP remains the only democratic institution and viable alternative for restoring Nigeria along the path of good governance and national development,” the communiqué emphasised.

On elections, the forum condemned what it termed the “over-militarisation, irregularities, and violence” during the August 9, 2025, by-election, warning Nigerians to safeguard their votes.

“We call on Nigerians to be more circumspect in protecting their votes,” it said, adding that the exercise reflected the APC’s “anti-democratic tendencies.”

On the security situation, the governors commended Zamfara State for efforts in tackling banditry but voiced concern over continued killings in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, and Benue States.

“We call on the Federal Government to be more responsive to the lives and properties of the citizenry,” the forum urged, pressing for urgent intervention to halt the worsening crisis.

The communiqué also expressed gratitude to the government and people of Zamfara for hosting the session.

“We thank the government and people of Zamfara State for their uncommon hospitality and congratulate Governor Dauda Lawal on his exemplary leadership and notable achievements in infrastructure, health, education, other social services, and security,” it stated.

The forum additionally commiserated with the people of Zamfara over the death of the Emir of Gusau and with the people of Oyo State on the recent passing of traditional rulers.
