APC convention is misuse of power — Adewole Adebayo slams FG
By Henry Nnaemeka
Prince Adewole Adebayo has faulted the Federal Government’s decision to shut access roads around the Federal Secretariat Complex and Eagle Square for the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention, describing the move as an abuse of office and a misuse of public resources.
Adebayo said the directive, which disrupted physical government operations and restricted movement within the area, erodes the boundary between state responsibilities and partisan political activities. He argued that public infrastructure and civil service hours should not be deployed for the benefit of any political party.
His reaction followed a circular from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation announcing the closure of all access roads leading to and around the Federal Secretariat Complex, Phases I, II and III, from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026.
The circular, signed by Permanent Secretary Dr. Abdul S. U. Garba, attributed the measure to the use of Eagle Square for the APC National Convention scheduled for the same period.
Consequently, workers in affected offices—including those at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—were directed to work from home on Friday, March 27, with Permanent Secretaries and heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) tasked to ensure full compliance.
The planned closures are expected to disrupt traffic and economic activity in the area, as commuters and businesses brace for restricted access and delays over the two-day period.
The development has revived debate over the use of public facilities for party activities and whether government operations should be adjusted to accommodate political events.
