APC confirms Shettima as Tinubu’s running mate for 2027
By Ishaya Ibrahim
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally confirmed Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate for the 2027 general election, ending months of speculation.
The confirmation came on Friday after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and top party leaders at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.
The announcement puts to rest reports that the President might drop his deputy for a northern Christian candidate — a move that would have altered the religious balance of the ticket. The decision signals Tinubu’s preference for continuity over political recalibration.
Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari, presented both Tinubu’s and Shettima’s nomination forms to the APC leadership during the meeting, formally sealing the ticket.
The event was attended by NWC members, some APC governors, National Assembly members elected on the party’s platform, and members of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) led by its Chairman and Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
