Angry youths set police station on fire in Ekiti hours before guber election

Ekiti residents are expected to turn out and elect who will lead them for the next four years in Saturday’s gubernatorial poll.

​Irate youths who took to the streets to protest the death of a man allegedly killed by a policeman have set the Isan-Ekiti police station ablaze, causing tension across the state.

​According to the Daily Post, the unfortunate incident occurred on Friday night, just hours before the Saturday gubernatorial election was scheduled to take place.

​A trending video circulating on social media captured the moment the angry youths stormed the police facility and set it on fire.

​In one of the clips, the lifeless body of a young man can be seen lying in a pool of blood.

​Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding what transpired and led to the incident remain unclear at the time of going to press.

​When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ekiti State Command, SP Abutu Sunday, promised to provide an update later.

​Pressed on what triggered the violence captured in the viral video, the PPRO simply said, “You have to hold on, I will get back to you.”

​Comments below the video reveal that the incident has raised serious security concerns ahead of the gubernatorial polls, which are set to kick off in the next few hours.
