Anambra Convention: Obiano, Ngige, Obi, Soludo, others’ll fly to Canada in August

Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano, immediate-past governor of the state Peter Obi, Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige and former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Charles Soludo are among prominent Anambra indigenes expected to grace the Anambra Convention which will take place in Toronto, Canada in August, this year.

Others expected at the event include the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe; Obi Gibson Nwosu of Awka, Igwe Christopher Idigo of Aguleri, Igwe Emeka Ilouno of Ifitedunu, President of Otu Suwakwa Igbo and former vice chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Professor Pita Ejiofor; Senator Andy Uba, Prince Arthur Eze, Dr.Ifeanyi Ubah, as well as members of national and state assemblies.

President of Anambra State of Canada, ASA Canada, Sir Charles-Mary Obiorah, who led a team of Anambra indigenes resident in Canada on a visit to the state as part of preparations for the convention, said in Awka that the event would also feature a fund–raising for the building of an Igbo Centre in Canada.

He also said that at the convention, Nigerian businessmen would hold a business summit with their Canadian counterparts for viable economic ventures beneficial to the two countries.

He said: “ASA Canada is embarking on this ambitious project for the good of Igbo and other black people in Canada. We therefore want our people to be part of this success as it is designed to build a culture of giving back to our community and raise funds for the housing project that will comprise of lodging accommodation, office and business complex, banquet halls, recreation rooms, business and educational development center, Igbo museum, kitchen and other community needs and services.”

Obiorah assured those who would donate to the project that money realised would be judiciously used, explaining that the money realised during the 2014 fund-raising was lodged in an investment account opened solely for the project.
