Amusan wins Stockholm Diamond League, betters Lausanne’s outing

Amusan came second behind Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn at the Lausanne Diamond League on Friday

Nigerian hurdler and reigning world champion, Tobi Amusan on Sunday night in Stockholm, Sweden won her first Diamond League race of the season in the women’s 100m hurdles. 

Amusan won the hurdles with an impressive time of 12.52 seconds in a race that took place at the Olympic Stadium.

In the second position was Sarah Avalanche of Ireland, who finished with a time of 12.73 seconds

Polish hurdler, Pia Skrzyszowska ran a time of 12.78 seconds to claim the third spot.

TheNiche earlier reported that Amusan came second behind her fierce rival, Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn at the Lausanne Diamond League on Friday.

The 26-year-old Commonwealth Games champion finished the 100m hurdles with a season-best matching time of 12.47 seconds, while America’s Tia Jones ran a time of 12.51seconds to come third in the race. 

Amusan will be hoping to hit top form before defending her World Athletics Championship title later this year in Budapest, Hungary. 

The Nigerian had a stellar run in 2022, where delivered brilliant performances at the Diamond League, Commonwealth Games, and World Athletics Championships.

Athletes are awarded points instead of medals for competing in each leg of the Diamond League series.

The top eight athletes in each event at the end of all the legs will qualify for the Diamond League Final, where they will compete for the trophy.

The competition in Stockholm was the seventh event of the Diamond League 2023 season.

The Diamond League 2023 series will wrap up with the two-day final in Eugene, in the United States of America on September 16 and 17.
