Amusan breaks another 100m Hurdles record

Amusan broke the 22-year-old Diamond League record to win the 100m Hurdles event at the Letzigrund arena in Zurich, Switzerland

World record holder and Nigerian sprinter, Tobi Amusan has once again obliterated another record in women’s 100m Hurdles.

The event was held at the 26,104 capacity Letzigrund arena, home to Swiss club, FC Zurich.  

TheNiche had earlier reported that a Europa League match between FC Zurich and Arsenal was moved from the venue to accommodate the Diamond League athletics event.  

Amusan ran a time of 12.29 seconds at the Diamond League final to break the 22-year-old meeting record.

The World and Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles champion was followed by American Tia Jones, who came in second with a time of 12.40 seconds.

The third and final place on the podium went to Jamaica’s Britany Anderson who came very close to the American with a time of 12.42 seconds. 

Amusan made history as the first Nigeria track and field athlete and the second in history to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games 100m title last month in August.  

The 25-year-old on her way to the medal set a new 12.30 seconds Games record to win the event’s gold in Birmingham, United Kingdom

Prior to this, the talented hurdler had won a gold and set a world record at the World Athletics Championship in Oregon, United States after returning a time of 12.12 seconds.
