Nigerian hurdler and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, has attributed her failure to successfully defend her women’s 100m hurdles title at the ongoing 2026 Commonwealth Games to an injury.
The 29-year-old athlete made this known while speaking with journalists after the eagerly anticipated race in Glasgow.
Amusan won gold in the event at the 2018 and 2022 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast and Birmingham, respectively.
She, however, crossed the finish line in 12.60s in this year’s final, consequently finishing third on Thursday night.

Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton won gold in 12.33s, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmons came second in 12.41s to pick up the silver.
Speaking on the outcome of the race, Amusan revealed that she suffered an injury during training, adding that it affected her performance.
She was, however, grateful that she could “get on the podium” despite her bad fall during training.
She said: “I had a pretty bad fall at training camp, so I’ve been a bit concerned about my knee coming into this meet. But I’m just thankful I was able to hold it together and get on the podium once again.”
