The Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Peter Obi, has commended Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for transforming the state via his quality developmental projects.

Obi also carpeted the state’s former Governor and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, for his comments on Igbo Presidency.

Obi spoke at Rivers State Government House after Wike’s Inaugural lecture delivered by Prof. Anya O. Anya.

Obi said that even the deaf could feel the work of Wike in Rivers State despite the efforts of the opposition to distract him.

Besides, Obi advised Wike to continue with the same zeal and passion even as he called on the  people of the state to remain faithful in following the governor, assuring them that he would not lead them astray.

On Amaechi’s comments that  no Igbo can be  President in 2023, Obi asked Nigerians to ignore him as he is, according to Obi, first and foremost, not an Igbo man and therefore cannot speak for Ndigbo.

Obi pointed out that no true Igbo man could make such a cavalier statement without gauging the mood and the feeling of the people.

Obi, who said that if the reason Amaechi made the provocative statement was because Ndigbo voted for the PDP, challenged  the minister to tell Nigerians how much votes he secured for the President in his state.

“As for me, I know I delivered over 95 per cent of my state’s vote for my party, the PDP,” Obi said.

He also called on the Federal Government to take the opportunity of this year’s Children’s Day to reflect on the future the government is bequeathing the children.   His words: “As far as I am concerned, and it is painful, the leaders of today are not doing enough to secure the deserved future for our children.”
