Alonso plays down sack rumours after Real Madrid’s bruising 2-0 home loss to Celta Vigo

Alonso watched on Sunday as a brace from Williot Swedberg ensured Celta Vigo beat Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has said he is only focused on his team’s upcoming UEFA Champions League (UCL) encounter against Manchester City and not the rumours of his impending sack by the La Liga giants.

​He made this known in his post-match interview following his team’s 2-0 defeat to Celta Vigo on Sunday.

​The Spaniard watched as a brace from Williot Swedberg ensured the visitors defeated Los Blancos at the Santiago Bernabéu.

​With the bruising home loss, Real Madrid are now four points behind league leaders Barcelona on the La Liga table.

​Following the defeat, reports emerged that the Real Madrid hierarchy could sack Alonso in the coming days.

​However, reacting to the development, Alonso insisted that he is only focused on Wednesday’s European match against Man City.

​The former Bayer Leverkusen coach went on to add that everyone is united at Madrid.

​“Rumors I’m getting fired? I’m not thinking of that, I’m just thinking of Wednesday’s game,” Alonso said.

​He added, “We are all united.”
