Alleged land grabbing: Suberu Oje, Alagbado residents petition Sanwo-Olu, seek govt intervention
Landlords and residents of Suberu Oje area of Alagbado, Lagos State have called on the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to come to their aid by putting a stop to the alleged ongoing illegal demolition of their properties by miscreants aided by armed policemen from the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental Offences, Lagos State Police Command, allegedly from Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.
The Save our Soul call was contained in a petition written to the state governor, by the Law firm of Jimmy Alara And Associates, counsel to the residents of Lemon Drive now Known as Olusayero Street, Suberu Oje, Alagbado, Lagos State.
The petition dated 13th February, 2026 is titled ” Appeal To Halt The Illegal And Continuous Demolition of Properties at Suberu Oje, Alagbado By Miscreants Aided By Policemen From The Lagos Taskforce On Environmental Offences.”
The petitioners in their letter to the Lagos State governor said that on the 26th of January this year, they woke up to the sight of over two hundred touts and miscreants supported by a team of over 100 heavily armed uniformed and plain clothe Policemen who invaded the entire Suberu Oje Area in Alagbado LCDA purporting to be executing a judgement they obtained on behalf of the Federal Housing Authority, FHA.
The petitioners said the touts and miscreants began pasting notices on buildings purporting to be executing a judgement they obtained on behalf of the Federal Housing Authority adding that within two days they brought in workmen and began demolishing buildings, removing roofs, breaking down structures and unleashing a reign of terror on the residents.
According to the residents the mayhem was done in the full glare and active support of the Policemen from the Taskforce on Environmental Offences, Lagos State Police Command and allegedly from Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.”
It was further stated that initially the hoodlums gave residents an ultimatum to ratify the occupation of their homes with ridiculous amount ranging from N25,050,000 to N80,000,000 failing which their structures would be demolished.
The petitioner said the miscreants unleashed an unbroken reign of terror on the poor and defenseless residents who are merely victims of their legal manouverings and procedural illegality using officials of the Deputy-Sheriff section of the Lagos State Judiciary and the Police,
The letter added that efforts to appeal to the miscreants to desist from the open display of terror has so far failed and yielded no results why a complaint to the Federal Housing Authority on behalf of whom they claim to be acting revealed that they were not so instructed.
The petitioners also said that attempts by the officials of the Federal Housing Authority to stop their acts of destructions has also yielded no results as they continue the act of destruction uninterrupted.
Consequently, the residents said that in their investigation they have observed the following trends.
*That they are informed that the Chairman of the LCDA of Alagbado is allegedly in active connivance and complicit in this act as residents have appealed to him without any response from his office.
*That it is strange that for two weeks a community presided over by the chairman is under siege with a reign of terror and brigandage and yet he is silent.
*That it is sad that an LCDA Chairman who is meant to protect the citizens of his area is rather the person allegedly aiding the destruction of properties and creating a state of chaos.
The petitioners said that while parties taken active steps to resolve the dispute in a legal way, they call on the Lagos State governor to intervene and stop further destruction of properties.
