“It happened before, not once, not twice. It happened during Jonathan’s time. That does not mean anything.
“Politicians are decamping but the people who are the voters are not decamping.
“Jonathan had 22 Governors then endorsing him like was done now. And what happened? Jonathan lost woefully. A lot of money was spent. Even the election was shifted but we are not learning our lessons. I pity Mr President” – Ndume.

Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) – who recently commended Bola Tinubu for increasing the number of northern appointments in his administration – has alerted the President not to invest much trust in his endorsement for a second term by some individuals or groups because the economic reality on the ground is grim.
Ndume cited Tinubu’s endorsement by 22 Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and warned him it may count for nothing, as happened in the case of former President Goodluck Jonathan who was endorsed by 22 Governors of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yet failed to win reelection in 2015.
Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) this year, is even more blunt in his assessment, warning Tinubu that he “cannot win” reelection because of his failed economic policies that have thrown Nigerians into their greatest hardship since independence in 1960.
Ndume narrated on Channels Television on Sunday that he was present at the meeting where the APC Governors expressed support for Tinubu’s second term but clarified that he was not part of the endorsers.
He reminded Tinubu that Jonathan was endorsed by 22 PDP Governors in 2015 but lost his re-election to Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.
Last month, 22 APC Governors unanimously adopted Tinubu as their candidate for the 2027 presidential election at a meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Villa in Abuja.
“I was there but that was not why I was there,” Ndume insisted.
“I was there for a summit and when I realised that it was not a summit and voice vote was put about the endorsement of Mr President, I just left, and that does not mean I am not an APC member.
“The majority had its way but a few of us felt that was not right.
