Akpabio celebrates APC’s Edo guber victory, says it shows Nigerians have confidence in Tinubu

Akpabio made the comment after INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Kuta declared APC candidate won Edo guber poll with 291,667 votes

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has attributed the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded Edo State governorship election to the confidence Nigerians have in President Bola Tinubu.

He made this known while addressing  newsmen on Sunday after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Monday Okpebholo of the APC winner of the election conducted on Saturday, September 2.

Announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Prof. Faruk Kuta, said that the APC candidate secured 291,667 votes to beat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ighodalo, who garnered 247,274 votes.

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna went on to add that Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) finished a distant third with 22,763 votes.

Kuta declared, “That Okpebholo, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”

In total, Okpebholo won 11 local government areas, while Ighodalo won 7 leaving Akpata with none.

Speaking after the victory, Akpabio said,
“I strongly believe that the election in Edo, though tense at the beginning, is a reflection of the confidence that Nigerians continue to express in President Tinubu.”
