There was pandemonium in Akure, the Ondo state capital today Tuesday as one person killed in a clash between two factions of the National Union of Road Transport Workers.

It was gathered that the drivers were fighting over management of parks even after the Ondo state government had ordered the suspension of driver’s unions activities in the state last week Monday.

The victim who was a member of the NURTW, was identified as Ademola Adegoyegun, was killed at the old garage area of Akure.

The drivers, armed with dangerous weapons attacked each other and their personal vehicles.

In a switch reaction, the Ondo state government has however suspended indefinitely all activities of the NURTW across the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale while speaking with newsmen in Akure there was a need to put a halt to these unwarranted clashes in the interest of peace in the state.

He also ordered the NURTW members to immediately vacate all motor parks across the state.

The government hinged its decision on what it described as unruly and uncultured behaviour of the union leaders which resulted in violent attacks on members and the innocent citizen.

The government, however, said the indefinite suspension did not affect RTEAN who comported themselves in a peaceful manner.
