Aiyedatiwa renames Ondo’s The Dome after ex-governor Mimiko
By Julius Alabi, Akure
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has renamed the International Centre for Culture and Events, popularly known as The Dome, in Akure, after his predecessor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, in recognition of his contribution to the development of the state.
The facility will henceforth be known as the Dr Olusegun Mimiko International Centre for Culture and Events, following the governor’s announcement at a birthday celebration organised in honour of the former governor in Abuja on Saturday.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan.
Mimiko, who governed Ondo State from 2009 to 2017, constructed the event centre during his administration as part of efforts to provide infrastructure for cultural activities, conferences and other major social events in the state.
The renaming places the facility among public institutions and infrastructure identified with the former governor’s administration, while formally associating his name with the centre in Akure, the state capital.
The Dome has served as a venue for events and gatherings, reflecting its role in the social and cultural life of Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa’s decision to rename the facility represents a formal recognition of Mimiko’s legacy, as the state continues to build on infrastructure established by successive administrations.
Mimiko, a medical doctor before venturing into politics, served two terms as governor of Ondo State between 2009 and 2017.
