Yesufu has repeatedly argued that Obi’s supporters will not allow a repeat of what she described as the rigging of the 2023 election.

Human rights activist and Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain Aisha Yesufu has claimed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is obsessed with her party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

She made this known on Saturday, 7 November in a now-trending post she shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) page.

Yesufu was reacting to a post on the same social media platform by Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye, in which the Senator representing Edo North senatorial district, Adams Oshiomhole, accused Obi of tax evasion and concealing assets offshore.

The post read: “Peter Obi does not pay tax. He cleverly manipulates the books and keeps his own taxes and a lot of his huge assets offshore.”

Reacting, Yesufu noted that the ruling party’s obsession with the former Anambra State governor has now degenerated into a smear campaign.

She also blamed the development on fear that the APC presidential candidate and incumbent president, Bola Tinubu, has become unpopular among Nigerians and might lose the 2027 polls.

”APC is obsessed with Peter Obi! The way they are all going after him now shows that they have gotten the memo that rigging will not be an option, so they are resorting to smear campaigns,” Yesufu wrote.

The activist-turned-politician further noted that the pattern of attacks on Obi in recent days shows that the ruling party is worried about his growing support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
