Agriculture grows 2.28% in Q1 2021

Agriculture grew 2.28 per cent in the first quarter of 2021 (Q1 2021) compared to 2.20 per cent in Q1 2020 and 3.42 per cent in Q4 2020, says the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its Q1 2021 data on Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Real GDP grew 0.51 per cent in Q1 2021 against 0.11 per cent in Q4 2020, and crop production under agriculture real GDP rose 2.31per cent compared to 2.38 per cent in Q1 2020 and 3.68 per cent in Q4 2020.

Livestock increased 1.65 per cent in Q1 2021, better than the 0.63 per cent recorded in Q1 2020 and 2.38 per cent in Q4 2020.

Fishing grew 3.24 per cent compared to 1.49 per cent in Q1 2020 and -3.60 per cent in Q4 2020.

The report disclosed that Forestry under agric real GDP rose 1.28 per cent compared to 1.71 per cent in Q1 2020 and 1.24 per cent in Q4 2020.

Figures for 2020 and 2019

In Q4 2020, agriculture rose 3.42 per cent in real terms compared to 1.39 per cent (year-on-year) in Q3 2020, according to another report released by the NBS in February.

Agriculture real GDP growth was 2.17 per cent in 2020 full year and 2.36 per cent in 2019.

Crop production notched 3.68 per cent in Q4 2020 compared to 1.38 per cent in Q3 2020 and 2.52 per cent in Q4 2019. Total 2020 GDP for crop production rose 2.24 per cent in 2020 full year against 2.51 per cent in 2019.

Livestock grew 2.38 per cent in Q4 2020 against 2.29 per cent in Q3 2020 and -0.20 per cent in Q4 2019. It grew 1.91 per cent in 2020 full year compared to 0.16 per cent in 2019.

Forestry increased 1.24 per cent in Q4 2020 compared to 2.55 per cent in Q3 2020 and 1.26 per cent in Q3 2019. Forestry grew 1.62 per cent in 2020 full year compared to 2.59 per cent in 2019.

Fishing contracted 3.60 per cent in Q4 2020 compared to contraction of 2.07 per cent in Q3 2020 and positive growth of 2.33 per cent in Q4 2019.

Fishing grew 0.26 per cent in 2020 full year and 3.33 per cent in 2019.
