The Pro Chancellor and chairman of the Governing Council of Adekunle Ajasin University, Dr Tunji Abayomi, has said that the standard of the university has been radically improved.
Abayomi who made this known at the Convocation ceremony of the university at the weekend at Akungb, Akoko in Ondo state, said the Council under his watch has covered respectable ground of its mandate 20 months after its inauguration.
He said: “Mr Governor,, you would recall that when you inaugurated the Governing Council of this University in March, 2018, you directed us to ensure that the standard of education at AAUA be radically improved upon such that AAUA becomes a globally recognized University.
“I am glad to inform you that just about twenty (20) months after our inauguration, a respectable ground has already been covered in achieving the mandate.
“Not only has this University retained the position of the Best State University in Nigeria, it has also climbed up the ladder to become the 9th best out of about 170 Universities in Nigeria, and number 81 out of hundreds of African Universities.
“We can also report that Adekunle Ajasin University has also ranked as number 3,057 in the world out of the over 28,000 universities ranked globally as at June 2019 as released by the World Webometric Ranking of Universities based in Spain.
“The Council under my leadership has not only ensured that it worked diligently on alternative sources of income, but has also been fair and courageous in handling all issues, including the welfare of staff and students, part of which was the recent implementation of the Hazard Allowance for all categories of staff of AAUA.”
Abayomi promised that the Council would continue to ensure that the University is administered in tandem with the vision and mission of its founding fathers for the highest, most respectable best standard,
The Pro-Chancellor therefore solicited for financial assistance to the university saying that “to sustain the leap forward and win recognition, serious financial support is urgently needed from the government.”
