ADC candidate Dr Mo claims he won Abuja Municipal Area Council poll

Dr Mo attributed the outcome of the election to the imposition of curfews, the mutilation of results, vote buying, and the harassment of ADC members.

Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the just-concluded Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship poll, Dr Moses Paul Ogigi, popularly known as Dr Mo, has claimed he had already won the election by 3 pm on Saturday.

He made this known recently while appearing as a guest on Arise News, where he insisted he had won the poll before what he described as ‘magic’ began to happen.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Christopher Maikalangu, as the winner of the council’s election.

According to the Collation Officer for AMAC, Prof. Andrew Abue, Maikalangu was returned elected, having scored the highest number of votes: 40,295 out of a total of 62,861 valid votes cast.

‘That Maikalangu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,’ he said.

The APC flag bearer was followed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Paul Ogigi, who came second with 12,109 votes, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dantani Zanda, polled 3,398 votes to come third.

Reacting to the announcement by INEC, Dr Mo attributed the outcome of the election to the imposition of curfews, mutilation of results, vote buying, and harassment of ADC members.

“This is why these particular elections that we have just concluded will be a defining moment in the democratic journey for Nigeria,’ he said.

Dr Mo added: “Not because it reflects the will of the people, but because it exposes the obstacle that hangs in the way of the will of the people. I came into this particular race hoping that—believing in democracy, believing in the resilience of the will of the people in Abuja, believing that, especially with the change in the INEC leadership—I was hoping for something new.

“By 3 pm I had already won the elections across the board and then magic began to happen. And this is, this is a crazy thing. So not only do I reject the outcome of the results, but I also…it is so disheartening to see the imposition of curfew, to see the mutilations of results, to see how members of the ADC were harassed from different polling booths.

“And I’ve never seen a heightened level of vote buying like we’ve seen in this particular election.”
