Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare has said the impression that she took her 17-year-old daughter, Similoluwa, to a night club to introduce her to alcohol is not correct.
She made this known on Saturday via a post she shared on her Instagram page while setting the record straight.
Bakare during a recent interview with content creator Mr Lil Gaga, revealed that she took the teenager to a club for the first time after her birthday and allowed her to taste alcohol.
She said: “I took my daughter to the club for the first time at 17. And I like the fact that in her memoir, she would reference me as the person who introduced her to alcohol and clubbing.”
However, after the interview surfaced on social media, it elicited mixed reactions as many Nigerians accused the actress of promoting irresponsible parenting.
Although a few netizens reasoned with her, most of them argued that she is reinforcing negative stereotypes about single mothers.
Reacting to backlash that trailed her comment, Bakare insisted that her remarks were taken out of context.
While sharing a video from her daughter’s birthday after party, she clarified that she never claimed she was introducing her to alcohol.
Speaking via her verified handle, she wrote: “Let me mention clearly here that I never said I introduced my daughter, @simlineboss, to alcohol. I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday after party. How is that bad naw?”
Bakare also urged her critics to stop twisting her words, adding that her intention was to create a memorable experience for her daughter and not to encourage underage to consume alcohol.
