Nollywood actor and film director Daniel Etim-Effiong is currently facing a backlash on social media after claiming he loves his wife more than his children and that he is attracted to people other than her.
The movie star made these comments during a recent appearance as a guest on the latest episode of the ‘Mansplanation’ podcast.
The father of three, however, clarified that such attraction does not necessarily equate to love or lust.
He further claimed that there are many expressions of love, noting that “being in love” with someone is distinct from simply “loving” someone.
While speaking about his relationship with his wife, Toyosi, he disclosed that they share a partnership similar to a business or enterprise.
He added that his love for his wife surpasses that for his children, emphasising that she comes first in his life.
“I love my wife more than my children. My wife comes first before my children. Although they have a really special place in my heart, their mum comes first.” he said.
After the interview circulated online, it elicited mixed reactions among Nigerians.

While some fans frowned at his decision to speak publicly about his private life, others questioned the nature of his affection for his family.
A netizen identified as @monstarrboii on Instagram wrote: “Whatever you have with your wife should stay between you and your wife; you owe us zero explanation. Cheers mate.”
Another internet user, @bee_nwa said: “If a man no love you, e go show. You go dey chop embarrassment on a steady.”
@thetechwomanexpert added: “What you have with your wife is like a partnership, a working relationship, a business, it’s like an enterprise. The interviewer had to come in and [say] built on love. Chai.”
However, some netizens backed Etim-Effiong’s claims and commended his honesty.
Wading into the actor’s remarks, @habiba_zocksock said: “He’s speaking truths. If you like, don’t learn the reality of marriage, stay there with your judgemental head and talking rubbish.”
Another user, @_cocopresh, shared: “Marriage or commitment doesn’t stop attraction. You just have to create boundaries and have respect for your partner.”
Etim-Effiong married media personality Toyosi Phillips in 2017. Since then, the couple has built a family while maintaining active careers in the media and entertainment industry.
