Registration has commenced for the 18th edition of the foremost grassroots football competition, the Abesan cup.
Coordinator of the tournament, Tayo Adeyemo, said that a total of 32 teams would participate in this year’s edition.
The venues are Joju field, Sango Otta, Ejigbo mini-stadium, Ikola Youth Centre Ipaja, and Abesan Youth Centre.
He disclosed that the competition had been renamed Lagos Youths Cup due to its expansion and popularity among grassroots clubs in Lagos and Ogun State.
He enjoined interested teams to pick up registration form on time while assuring them of adequate security during the tournament which will commence on June 10.
Abesan cup, which stated in 1999, has gained wider coverage and acceptance due to its consistency over the years coupled with the fact that no team has won it back to back. Past winners include Labro FC, Mighty Sparrow, Midas, Onigando Academy, Mundial Sports International, Prostars, Future Heroes, Three Wheelers, Larry FC, and Crystal FC of Ijeshatedo.
