Gunmen who kidnapped two women on Sunday night in Nasarawa have demanded N50 million ransom for their release, with a family source disclosing in Lafia that the victims are being subjected to severe hardship in the forest.
The women are crying out for their rescue.
One of them, a Pastor’s wife kidnapped alongside a church member, is a nursing mother of a three-month-old baby and is said to be traumatised due to her health condition, the stress of long treks in the forest, and the harsh treatment from her captors.
“She is seriously worried about her health and the separation from her three-month-old baby. The hostile environment and the inhumane treatment pose a serious threat to her survival,” the source told Vanguard.
The victim was reportedly overheard pleading on the phone: “My baby, my baby… please, who will help me out of this calamity? Somebody please help me out of this forest of pain.”
Her husband and other family members have expressed deep distress over the kidnappers’ insistence on the huge ransom payment before her release, an amount they lament they are not able to raise.
Sympathisers have implored the security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently intervene and rescue the captives.
Muhammed Osolafia, Governor Abdullahi Sule’s Assistant on Humanitarian Services, who was also a victim of a separate kidnap incident on Sunday night, has regained his freedom.
