Hostilities will begin today, Tuesday, August 12 in this year’s Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship with matches in both the girls and boys categories at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Defending champions in the girls catgory, St Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata from Bayelsa State will begin the defence of their title against West End Mixed Secondary School from Delta State in the opening match of the day.
In the second match of the day, Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan, Oyo State will take on C.A.C Grammar School, Akure, Ondo State.
In the Boys category, Ilupeju Senior Secondary School, Ilupeju, Lagos State will take on St. Augustine’s Seminary, Ezzangbo, Ebonyi State while the last match for Tuesday will be between Jesus College from Benue State and Osadenis High School, Asaba from Delta State.
At the end of the championship this weekend, Saturday, August 16, the first placed teams in both the boys and girls categories would go home with the championship trophy and N150, 000 prize money each.
Second and third placed teams will take home N120, 000 and N100, 000 respectively.
Apart from the trophies and cash prizes, the National School Sports Federation (NSSF) organisers of the championship have also confirmed that the winners at this year championship will fly the nation’s flag at World Schools Basketball Championship in Linigoes, France from 17th to 25th April 2015.
