Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has seemingly shifted his focus from the Ekiti State government by alleging that Sunday Asefon, an aide to President Bola Tinubu, and the president’s in-law, Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, were directly involved in the recent attack on him in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

He levelled the latest allegation on Monday, 2 November, in a statement he shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.

Earlier, while recounting his ordeal at the hands of suspected political thugs in an interview on Channels Television, Sowore alleged that one of those who attacked him is on the “Ekiti government’s payroll”.

“The guy that led my attack is on the Ekiti govt payroll. He is not a hidden person. He is a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor. I have his name, I have his picture,” he claimed.

However, in his latest post on the saga, Sowore noted that the incident was politically motivated and sponsored by those close to the Presidency.

According to the activist-turned-politician, the thugs who attacked him were mobilised by Tinubu’s aide, Asefon, and the president’s son-in-law, Ojo.

Taking to his verified handle, he wrote: “Fresh information from our sources points to Asefon Sunday Dayo, former NANS President and SSA to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on ‘Student Engagement,’ as one of the alleged ringleaders of the October 30, 2026, assassination attempt against me and members of my team in Ado-Ekiti.

”Our sources identify Asefon’s bodyguard and enforcer, Ayodeji Akintade Ifeoluwa, as one of those deployed to lead the attack (he was the one in green polo wielding and using machete on our team members) alongside Sola Adenijo, aka Solar, whom we have identified as a principal coordinator of the armed assault.

”We have also received information implicating ‘Hon’ Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Tinubu’s son-in-law and husband of Folashade Tinubu-Ojo. Our sources claim he mobilised Sola Adenijo aka ‘Solar’ for the operation.”

He further alleged that the attack was an attempt to intimidate him and stop him from criticising the government and speaking out against bad governance in the country.

Sowore went on to vow that no amount of intimidation would stop him from fighting for justice and good governance.

The AAC chieftain also called on the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to immediately investigate the incident and bring the culprits to book.
