2027: Ondo will vote Tinubu, UK group declares

By Julius Alabi, Akure

The United Kingdom (UK) branch of the TinubuDatiwa Support Group has declared its readiness to mobilise voters and resources for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, insisting that Ondo State would be a difficult terrain for opposition presidential candidates.

The group also pledged to return to Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections to participate in the voting process and strengthen grassroots mobilisation in support of Tinubu.

The group’s president, Mr Oluwatosin Balogun, stated this during a meeting with the Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, in Central London at the weekend

Balogun expressed confidence in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s political support base in Ondo State, declaring that opposition presidential hopefuls, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, would face a challenging campaign environment in the state.

He attributed the group’s support for Tinubu’s re-election to what he described as the developmental strides of the President’s administration across the Southwest, particularly the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Ilesa-Owo Expressway.

He also cited the infrastructural development initiatives of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Ondo State as part of the factors informing the group’s decision to mobilise support for the President ahead of the next general elections.

According to Balogun, members of the UK branch are prepared to commit their resources and return home to exercise their franchise, while encouraging eligible voters to participate in the electoral process.

The group’s declaration comes amid growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, with political parties and support organisations seeking to consolidate their bases and attract voters across the country.

Responding, Ajanaku commended the group for its commitment to Tinubu’s re-election bid and its recognition of the Aiyedatiwa administration’s efforts to develop Ondo State and position it as an emerging industrial hub.

The commissioner disclosed that Aiyedatiwa had commenced strategic political mobilisation measures aimed at securing increased support for Tinubu in the state.

He said the governor had appointed four special assistants in each local government area to strengthen grassroots engagement, while presidential campaign committees had also been inaugurated as part of preparations for the election.

According to Ajanaku, the administration is determined to consolidate on Ondo State’s performance in the 2023 presidential election, when the state recorded the highest number of votes for Tinubu among states in the Southwest, and improve on that record in 2027.

He said the UK group’s pledge to return to Nigeria and participate in the election demonstrated its commitment to the President’s political fortunes and the mobilisation of support among eligible voters.

Ajanaku added that the group’s position underscored the importance of Ondo State in the political calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The commissioner expressed optimism that Tinubu’s re-election would bring further development to Ondo State, while urging supporters to sustain their engagement ahead of the polls.
