Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has said his team’s confidence and morale took a hit after they conceded two quick goals to visiting Paris Saint-Germain in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) clash.
The Italian tactician made this known while addressing journalists after his team suffered a 4-2 loss to the French champions in the European encounter at the Etihad Stadium.
PSG went into the break three goals up, thanks to goals from Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Vitinha.
Although Erling Haaland pulled one back with a flicked header, Maghnes Akliouche restored the Ligue 1 side’s three-goal advantage.
Haaland then completed his brace as the Citizens suffered their first defeat in all competitions this season.
Reacting to the loss, Maresca said his team played well and were still in the game until they conceded the first goal against the French giants.
He argued, however, that he tweaked something in the second half and it helped his team get better.
He said: “We started well but conceded the two quick goals and that created bad feelings.
”In the second half, we were much better and deserved something more.
“It was strange, as until the first goal we played well, we were in the game. It was very difficult, and then when you concede two goals in two minutes it becomes even worse.
“We adjusted something at half-time and didn’t lose our balance. We adjusted the way we pressed and what we did on the ball.”
