Germany coach Jurgen Klopp has expressed optimism that Arsenal forward Kai Havertz’s injury in their draw against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League is not too serious.
He spoke about the German attacker—who picked up a suspected muscle/thigh issue in his team’s 1-1 draw against the Dutch—when addressing journalists after the encounter.
Both teams were managed by high-profile new bosses, with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in charge of his native Germany and Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez taking charge of the Dutch.
Felix Nmecha gave Germany the lead from close range in the first half, but the Netherlands equalised through Cody Gakpo in injury time after he volleyed in a brilliant cross from Ruben van Bommel.
However, the injury to Havertz, who was caught on the knee by a high boot from Quinten Timber in the first half, ended up being one of the major talking points of the game.
While giving an update on the incident, Klopp said the Arsenal forward was undergoing an MRI scan, after which the extent of his injury would be known.
He did, however, confirm that Havertz is “probably out” for their upcoming fixture against Greece.
Klopp added, “I hope it’s nothing serious,” and expressed hope that the player will “be back in action relatively quickly” for his club.
On the outcome of the match, he lamented his team’s inability to see the game off, but added that he was pleased with the overall performance.
”We have to accept the result,” said Klopp. “Even though I badly wanted to win, I take the draw.
”I was very, very, very pleased with a lot of the individual performances. Overall, I was very happy with the passion we showed. We can play better and play more football, that’s for sure.”
