Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has praised Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman following his impactful display in their 2–1 derby triumph over Real Madrid.
The Argentine tactician made this known after his team earned three precious points at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Sunday evening to leapfrog their city rivals.
Atlético Madrid secured the narrow victory over Real Madrid in the first Madrid derby of the La Liga season, with Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David scoring in the 53rd and 59th minutes respectively, before Antonio Rüdiger reduced the deficit for the visitors in the 89th minute.
Lookman was introduced from the bench for the final 23 minutes against Los Blancos, coming on as a substitute for Álex Baena.

Following his introduction, the Nigerian international demonstrated threatening play, displaying considerable potential in offensive situations and injecting energy into Atlético’s attacking movements, although he did not score.
Speaking after the match, Simeone expressed satisfaction with the collective performance of his squad and acknowledged the contributions of the substitutes, notably Lookman.
“I feel proud. We had talked about teamwork. Not just the ten who started—we needed Koke’s talent, a bit more freshness from Julián, for Lookman to come on and perform better than he did…” he was quoted as saying by Fichajes.
Simeone added: “But I have no doubt that the team’s collective effort was a consequence of the kind of game we wanted to play.”
