Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed that he will ensure importers of hard drugs into Nigeria face life sentences, irrespective of status or political standing, if he emerges as the winner of the 2027 presidential election.
The former Anambra State governor made the pledge on Saturday in Kaduna State during a town hall meeting with NDC members and supporters in the state.
Addressing party faithful at the venue, he said, “If I assume office as President of Nigeria, anybody importing hard drugs will face a life sentence. Our youths have suffered immensely because of hard drugs.”

Obi also called on candidates of other political parties to avoid making unrealistic campaign promises that they cannot fulfil if elected into office.
He went on to advise them to focus on the challenges facing Nigerians by engaging directly with the people.
He also promised to spend his annual holidays in Nigeria rather than abroad if the electorate elects him as president.
According to him, the President should remain close to the people and use such periods to visit different parts of the country, especially communities facing insecurity and other challenges.
