Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has made it clear that he has no pact with President Bola Tinubu to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the clarification on Tuesday while appearing as a guest on Arise Television’s Prime Time show.
According to the former Rivers State governor, the only promise he made to Nigeria’s incumbent president was to support his re-election bid.
Tinubu is expected to seek another four-year term in 2027, with his main challengers being the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) counterpart, Peter Obi.

Speaking as the country gears up for the polls, Wike reiterated his commitment to supporting Tinubu during the election, but added that the president is aware of his stance on decamping to the APC.
The minister, who is still a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), went on to say that even if he decided to join the ruling party, it would be at his own instance.
“I told them I would support the President right from the start,” Wike said.
He added: “I never told Mr President I will join the APC. Go and ask him. If I want to join the APC, it’s not people like Hope who will tell me to join.”
