Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has said his performance at the recently held World Cup could influence his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or award, noting this could be a good year for him.

He made this known on Monday while speaking ahead of his team’s UEFA Champions League clash with Inter Milan on Tuesday.

Mbappé is regarded as one of the frontrunners to win the prize alongside Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal, and Rodri.

The Frenchman recently became the men’s World Cup all-time top scorer at this year’s edition after taking his tally at the tournament to 22 goals.

While rating his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, the 27-year-old forward felt this could be a good year, pointing to his exploits at the World Cup.

He, however, acknowledged that the decision to crown the winner of the award rests with journalists and not him.

Addressing pressmen ahead of the European clash, Mbappé said: “I made history this summer in the most prestigious competition, but there’s still a long way to go.

“This might be a good year for the Ballon d’Or.

“But the journalists vote, and they will decide. I only focus on doing my best”.

Last season, Mbappé finished as the top scorer in La Liga, scoring 42 goals in 44 games for Real Madrid.
