The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has described reports that it failed to field candidates in 12 states of the federation for the 2027 governorship election as false.
The opposition party made this known on Saturday via a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.
He was reacting to news that the NDC did not present candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the upcoming gubernatorial poll.
Debunking the rumour, Director wrote, “We have duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where elections will hold in 2027.”
The NDC also clarified that it is not a regional party, but a national movement with structures, supporters, and candidates across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

To address the claims, the party went on to release the names of its governorship candidates in the 12 states mentioned in the report.
These candidates include Senator Kabiru Marafa in Zamfara State, Rtd Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim in Borno, and Hon. John Odey in Cross River.
Others are Babanta Michael Okon in Akwa Ibom, Nwofe Boniface in Ebonyi, Yakubu Solomon Ndam in Plateau, and Ilu-Barde Aliyu in Katsina.
The party also named Alhaji Umar Usman Besse as its candidate in Kebbi, Jonga Yahaya Gabakau in Yobe, Dutse Aminu Sani in Jigawa, Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani in Taraba, and Abdu Sidi Bomi in Niger State.
The NDC urged media organisations, journalists, bloggers, and content creators to verify information before publishing reports about the party.
Director added: “We remain focused on issue-based politics and will not be distracted by sponsored falsehoods ahead of the 2027 elections.”
