Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has finally laid to rest the controversy surrounding the authentic gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State by recognizing Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke.

His confirmation as the party’s flagbearer in the state’s 2027 gubernatorial election came on Saturday after his Form EC9, alongside those of other candidates, was displayed on INEC’s website.

While the flagbearers of other parties contesting the Oyo governorship election had been confirmed, that of the ADC remained unresolved as multiple aspirants continued to lay claim to the position.

However, reacting to the display of his name by INEC, Adegoke advised all aggrieved aspirants to cooperate with him to win the election.

He said: “We, therefore, urge all other aspirants and their supporters to desist forthwith from any further misrepresentations and to respect the decision of the party and the position of INEC.

“We call on our members, supporters, and the good people of Oyo State to remain calm, united, and focused as we mobilise ahead of the elections.”
