Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez is expected to complete his medical today in London ahead of his anticipated move from Aston Villa to Chelsea.
This was revealed on Friday by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via a post on his official X page.
Earlier, several media outlets reported that Chelsea had agreed a £7.5m fee to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.
The Argentina international was also expected to travel to London to undergo a medical in order to finalise the somewhat surprising move.
The decision to bring Martínez to Stamford Bridge follows concerns over the performance of Chelsea’s Robert Sánchez, particularly in the wake of Monday’s 3-2 win over Fulham.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who has been the West London outfit’s first-choice goalkeeper since 2023, allowed Josh King’s shot to slip through his grasp at the near post. He then spilled another effort into a dangerous area in the second half, allowing striker Gonzalo García to score.
Providing an update on the deal, Romano said Martínez is in London to complete his medical today and sign a two-year contract with the Blues.
He added that the deal, which will see him stay at the club until 2028, includes the option for another season.
Speaking on his verified handle, the Italian journalist wrote: “Emiliano Martínez, in London today for medical tests and then contract signing at Chelsea.
”Deal valid until June 2028 with option for further season.”
The deal, when completed, will represent a remarkable turnaround in opinion at Chelsea, as those in charge had been keen to back Sánchez but have opted to move for Martínez days before the transfer deadline.
