Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) star Bella Okagbue has broken her silence on her decision to move on from her relationship with fellow housemate Segun Olusemo, popularly known as Sheggz.

In a lengthy social media post, the reality star reflected on her earlier decision to give the relationship another chance after it hit turbulence.

Bella’s latest post followed alleged leaked WhatsApp messages from October 2023, in which she and Sheggz’s mother discussed an alleged N11,000,000 her ex-lover owes her, alongside his confirmation of their break-up.

Sheggz, in a statement shared on social media on Wednesday, stated that his relationship with Bella ended in January 2026, but denied allegations that he cheated on or abused her during their relationship.

“I am a man who values family, friendship, integrity and my faith. I am a brother, a friend to many and most importantly, I know the values I stand for. I am not an abuser,” he wrote.

Sheggz added, “For clarity, I did not cheat on Bella, and I have been single since January 2026. The relationship ended in January 2026.

”We made attempts to reconcile afterwards, but ultimately I came to the conclusion that there were issues of trust and respect that I could not overlook when considering marriage.”

However, while defending her choice to stay in the relationship without framing it as a source of regret in her latest post, Bella wrote, “I loved genuinely. I defended the relationship because I believed in it at the time, and I chose to give someone I loved a second chance because I believe people can grow and change. That was my choice, and I own it.”

She further explained that she had remained silent because she believed some parts of their relationship should stay private.

She admitted that she genuinely loved Sheggz and defended their relationship because she believed in it, adding that she gave him another chance because she believed people could change.

Bella went on to add that believing someone could change did not mean she had to wait indefinitely for that change.

“The person everyone experiences publicly isn’t always the person you experience privately,” she wrote.

The reality star also addressed discussions about marriage and the ring Sheggz previously said he had bought for her.

“A ring doesn’t fix what made a relationship impossible,” Bella said.

She further challenged some versions of events about their relationship that have emerged online, saying they did not reflect her reality, adding that there were other parts of her experience she had deliberately kept private and would speak about when she felt ready.

“A hundred promises. Not one fulfilled,” she wrote, adding that she eventually stopped listening to promises and started paying attention to patterns.

Pushing back against the narrative that her desire for marriage made her look desperate, she drew a firm line between longing for commitment and knowing when to step away.

”Wanting marriage with someone you love is not desperation. Knowing when not to marry them is discernment. Sometimes, it takes more courage to walk away than to stay,” she stated.

Bella also said she had given the relationship love, loyalty and another chance, but reached a point where trust, respect and peace could no longer exist alongside that loyalty.

She said she did not regret trying again but had now decided to put herself first and walk away.

“So today, I choose myself. I choose differently, regardless of what comes with it,” she concluded.
