Georgina Rodríguez, a Spanish-Argentine model and wife of Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, has rationalised their decision to hold a private wedding at home rather than an extravagant celebration.
The Al-Nassr forward announced the wedding on Tuesday, 11 August, on his Instagram account, after posting a photograph showing two hands—presumed to be his on top of his wife’s—both wearing wedding rings.

A year prior, Rodríguez confirmed their engagement by sharing a picture of her ring online with a caption that translated to: “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives.”
However, to everybody’s surprise, the wedding ceremony was a modest affair that took place in the living room of their mansion in Cascais, Portugal.

While explaining the decision to fans who had expected a grand event during an interview with Vogue, Rodríguez discussed how her perspective on weddings had evolved despite her childhood dreams of a fairy-tale celebration.
“As a little girl, I envisioned the grandest castle, the most magnificent carriage, the longest gown, and a crown adorned with diamonds,” she remarked.
“Now, I find myself saying: no. I desire something intimate, shared with my partner and our children, in the comfort of our home.
“We have access to castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars every day. However, an intimate gathering is something more unique for us,” she added.
The influencer further highlighted the significance of exchanging vows in their living room, emphasising their intention to create a lasting memory for their children.
Rodríguez continued: “We chose to hold the ceremony in our living room, the place where we share breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we experience our daily lives.
“In 30 years, I want our children to remember that something wonderful occurred at this table: the wedding vows of their parents.”
Rodríguez and Ronaldo, who dated for a decade before tying the knot, share five children: twins Eva Maria and Mateo, Alana, Bella, and Cristiano Jr (the striker’s son from a previous relationship).
