Premier League club Manchester City have agreed to sell defensive midfielder Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, popularly known as Rodri, for a fee of £65.4m (€76.5m) to Spanish giants Barcelona following weeks of negotiations.

This was disclosed late on Sunday by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

City had been trying to convince Rodri to stay and sign a new contract, but the midfielder made it clear he preferred a move back to Spain this summer, despite having one year left on his current deal.

Romano confirmed in his latest post that both clubs have now reached an agreement, and the transfer is set to proceed.

Rodri is expected to sign a four-year contract with Barcelona, who are keen to secure the 30-year-old midfielder for a substantial fee.

He has made 196 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions since 2019, scoring 23 goals.

Having recently guided Spain to World Cup glory, he is seen by Hansi Flick as a key addition to bolster the squad following their La Liga title win this year.
