Adeleke won his re-election bid as Osun State governor on Saturday, beating his nearest rival, APC candidate Oyebamiji, and 11 others.

A heartwarming moment in which the Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke, was seen prostrating before his elder sister, Chief Dr (Mrs) Modupeola Adeleke-Sanni, after he was declared the winner of Saturday’s off-cycle governorship election in his state has set social media buzzing.
The trending clip was shared online on Sunday, 16 August, and it quickly captured the imagination of thousands of Nigerians online.
Governor Adeleke won a fresh four-year term to lead the state after defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His victory was confirmed in Osogbo early on Sunday after the Returning Officer for the Osun governorship election, Joshua Ogunwole, announced the results at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Centre in the state.
According to him, Governor Adeleke of the Accord Party (AP) polled 511,067 votes, whilst Oyebamiji of the APC and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) garnered 444,815 and 17,180 votes respectively.
Ogunwole continued: “For that, Adeleke Ademola Jackson of the Peoples Democratic Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
In a viral clip that made the rounds after his re-election, Gov. Adeleke, despite holding the highest office in Osun State, lowered himself fully to the ground before his older sister in the traditional Yoruba manner.
The gesture elicited reactions from many netizens, who found it deeply moving and culturally significant.
According to them, it is a reflection of Yoruba cultural values surrounding seniority, family loyalty, and humility—virtues that many commenters said are often abandoned once public figures attain power and wealth.
An internet user identified as @KingOrezii wrote: “Yoruba people are too humble, respectful, and loyal.
They are the real deal.”
Another Nigerian, @lee44716680, jokingly said: “My own uncle and his wife are in the village doing juju on me so I won’t succeed 😢”
@ashman_babane added: “Money makes you good siblings! There are some thoughts that will never cross your mind as a well-established, buoyant sibling. Your kids won’t have reasons to hate anyone or anything. Congratulations to them. IMOLẸ🟡”
Also appreciating the humility of the governor, @omoladeomo wrote: “Very humble governor. You will know a good mother raised them in respect, love, humility, and loyalty…”
Whilst @Tonysurb noted: “There is genuine love in their family; some families are absolutely blessed.”
