Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has appealed to Nigerian fans to support Justine Madugu’s side as they prepare to take on Zambia in their second group game of the ongoing CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday night.
The forward, who currently plays for Mexican side Cruz Azul, made the plea while speaking to Femi Pereira in Morocco.
The Super Falcons, who are the reigning WAFCON champions, shockingly lost their opening group game 3–2 to debutants Malawi a few days ago.
Speaking ahead of their second group fixture against Zambia, Kanu told fans that the Falcons’ players are all hurting following the loss.
She added that the ladies know what is at stake and understand how Nigerians feel about the loss to Malawi.
She said: “Playing Zambia is another game, another challenge, another opportunity to be ourselves on the pitch. It doesn’t matter whether they lost or didn’t; we are focusing on getting the points.
“As for the fans, we are all hurting, but we’re working on the things that didn’t work out in the last game. So we need all the support we can get.
”We know what is at stake and how Nigerians feel about the loss to Malawi.
”The whole point is that we take it one game at a time. We are ready and will make Nigerians proud.”
