Air Peace suspends Benin flights over runway closure
Air Peace has temporarily suspended all flight operations to and from Benin Airport following the closure of the airport’s runway due to a runway incursion.
The airline announced on Thursday that the disruption, which has led to the cancellation of affected flights, was caused by circumstances beyond its control.
In a statement signed by the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, Air Peace said the suspension would remain in effect while the relevant airport authorities work to restore normal operations.
“The temporary suspension and cancellation of affected flights are necessitated by circumstances beyond the airline’s control. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this disruption may cause and appeal to all affected passengers for their patience and understanding as the relevant airport authorities work to restore normal operations,” the statement read.
Passengers with affected bookings have been advised to contact the airline’s Customer Care Centre for rebooking assistance, flight updates, and other enquiries.
Air Peace reaffirmed that the safety and wellbeing of its passengers and crew remain its highest priority, assuring customers that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.
The airline also apologised for the inconvenience and thanked passengers for their patience, understanding, and continued confidence in its services.
A runway excursion occurs when an aircraft veers off or overruns the runway during take-off or landing. Such incidents typically prompt airport authorities to temporarily close the runway to facilitate aircraft recovery, safety inspections, and the restoration of normal flight operations.
