Oba Arasanyin declares New Yam Festival open in Okeagbe

The Ajana Afa of Okeagbe, Oba Mofolorunso Adegboyega Arasanyin has officially declared the commencement of the annual New Yam Festival, calling on sons and daughters of Ogosi Quarters to celebrate the age-long tradition with gratitude and unity.
In a goodwill message to mark the auspicious occasion, the monarch extended warm felicitations to the people of Ogosi Quarters, describing them as the historic custodians privileged to partake first in the new yam within the kingdom.
Oba Arasanyin noted that the festival remains a symbol of cultural heritage, thanksgiving and communal harmony, deeply rooted in the traditions of Afa Okeagbe.
He particularly acknowledged the vital role of Ogosi Quarters in preserving the sacred customs associated with the New Yam Festival, stressing that their participation underscores the continuity of tradition across generations.
The royal father also conveyed his greetings to the chiefs of the quarters, including Elemikan, Elekan, Elejofe, Ologotun of Ighase, Olisa, Elegiri, Elemofe, Sarede, Bashorun, Aro-Onile, Erelu, Eyemeso, Eyemofin and Otunba Solomon Oladunni, the Asiwaju of Okeagbe for their unwavering commitment to the cultural identity of the community.
According to him, the festival serves not only as a celebration of the new harvest but also as a period of reflection, thanksgiving and prayers for greater prosperity.
Oba Arasanyin prayed that the celebration would usher in abundant harvests, enduring peace, good health and increased prosperity for all sons and daughters of Afa Okeagbe, both at home and in the diaspora.
He urged the people to use the occasion to strengthen bonds of unity and promote peaceful coexistence within the community.
The monarch further called on residents to uphold the values of respect, discipline and cultural pride that define the kingdom.
He reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the rich traditions of Okeagbe while fostering development and progress across all quarters.
The New Yam Festival, widely celebrated across many parts of Nigeria, marks the beginning of the harvest season and is regarded as one of the most significant cultural events in the region.
