Living with the cobra-god
By Abraham Nwankwo
In other lands violent and venomous,
In Logho tribe the cobra does not bite;
Rather moves about gently and is adored,
Because it’s the god of the land.
Could sleep on same bed with a person.
But if found relaxing in a house,
Then the host has a case with the gods.
Must go to the diviner for full message.
Meanwhile elderly women eulogize the cobra,
Until away it gracefully crawls.
